While the earliest illuminated manuscripts supplemented the text with decorations such as borders, initials, and art in the margins of a page—we at Route 7 Press seek to define the contemporary illuminated manuscript as a book of fine literature printed in such a manner that the physical book is as beautiful as the story the pages hold. We seek to create books that will be collector’s items not only for the written word, but for the art, design, and craft of the book as a whole.
Our books are printed by a veteran designer in the bookmaking industry with over twenty years of experience. He prides himself in the craft of bookmaking and has a long history of making tomes that are truly beautiful.
Our books are printed individually and as part of a collection of five total volumes. Each five-book collection is connected in their art, design, styling, and have a common feature, theme, dynamic, or thread.
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.
~ William Morris
The inspiration for Route 7 Press was to return to a concern for the clothes the words of our authors wear. We want to publish books that are objects of beauty. Books that are as wondrous as the poetry and prose that lie upon their pages.
In that spirit, Route 7 Press will be an independent press, a division of The Tishman Review, Inc—a 501(c)(3) Michigan nonprofit—that publishes series of collector edition books of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
Our first series will be comprised of: a poetry chapbook, a short story collection, a novel, and two full-length poetry collections.
Our second series will be comprised of: a full-length creative nonfiction book, two full-length poetry collections, a flash fiction chapbook, and a novel.
Each book will be produced as an illuminated manuscript and also as a high-quality paperback, to keep in the tradition of The Tishman Review’s efforts to bring great literature to the masses.
We hope you will join us in our efforts to return to the production of beautiful books.
